Bolton & Menk is now accepting applications for our 2026 summer internship season in our Charlotte, NC location. As an Urban Designer Intern, you will provide support to Project Managers for services related to city and town planning; urban design; transportation planning and comprehensive plan development. Planning projects will vary with emphasis on small area plans, corridor planning downtown master planning, transportation, parks, and trails. Striking a balance between art and science, our creativity is strongly rooted in collaboration between clients and designers to create enduring and memorable places.

What you will be doing:

In this role you will provide support to Project Managers for services related to city and town planning; urban design; transportation planning and comprehensive plan development. Planning projects will vary with emphasis on small area plans, corridor planning downtown master planning, transportation, parks, and trails.

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR:

• Degree Programs: Selected candidates will be enrolled in urban planning, urban design, landscape architecture or other closely related field from an accredited post-secondary institution.
• Current Status: Desired is Sophomore or above with completed coursework in planning principles and knowledge of land use.
• Students must have general knowledge in related software (i.e., ArcGIS, Adobe Creative Suite, Sketchup, Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint).
• Students must possess a valid driver’s license and their own transportation. You will be reimbursed for business-related travel.
• Students must have the ability to read, speak and write English clearly as this position interacts with client staff, client stakeholders, contractors, and sub-contractors.

Each year we look for a variety of experiences, education, and ability for our student intern pool. Some positions may be filled with students who have experience depending on the level of complexity a project or client may require. Preference may be given to students who have completed a previous internship with Bolton & Menk.

Relocation and housing are not included.
