The Reading Specialist works directly with youth in Kindergarten through 8th grade , helping them grow into confident, capable readers. • Use best practices and proven interventions to help students reach grade-level reading

  • Support and collaborate with parents—sharing tools, strategies, and encouragement
  • Administer reading assessments and track student progress
  • Participate in team planning, program development, and shared decision-making
  • Collaborate with volunteers and community partners to strengthen outcomes
  • Represent the organization with warmth, professionalism, and pride
  • Jump in where needed—because youth work is a team sport

  • An Associate’s degree (required); Bachelor’s preferred in Education, Child Development, or a related field
  • Experience working with children in reading or literacy support

  • Organization, creativity, and the ability to juggle multiple priorities
  • Self-motivation and comfort working independently
  • A deep respect for and commitment to working with families from diverse backgrounds
  • A personality that balances structure with play, patience with enthusiasm

Schedule & Compensation

  • Typical hours: Monday–Thursday, 1:00–6:00 PM

  • Pay: Starting at $20/hour, with growth potential based on experience and education
